There’s a secret behind why I can walk into any house and see what others miss, and it has nothing to do with luck.
I remember when I parted ways with my corporate employer. The company brought in a new manager who had a completely different philosophy than mine. At the time, it felt discouraging and uncertain yet, as uncomfortable as it was. That event was the push I needed to pursue my entrepreneurial aspirations.
Since I was in college, I would daydream about flipping homes one day. I’d met real estate investors and thought it was a useful endeavor. My opportunity arrived when my wife, Michelle, and I moved to Texas in 1993. I got hired by the largest home building company in the country as a superintendent. It was an excellent introduction to the industry: supervising contractors and pricing custom changes for clients.
One day, a sales manager came into my office and asked me to create a spreadsheet to calculate his salespeople’s commissions. As I worked on that project, I realized how many opportunities came with building strong client relationships. I asked my boss for a chance to move into sales, which turned out to be a pivotal decision in my career.
I began selling new homes for the company. It was the late 90s, when the dot-com boom hit, and I was in the right place at the right time. That switch marked the beginning of a 20+ year career selling homes, training other salespeople, marketing homes, doing land acquisition and land development, building homes, designing floor plans, you name it! I was going as deep as possible in an industry I loved.
Yet, in the back of my mind, I’d always had the dream of becoming self-employed. I’d spent decades selling homes that, by 2015, I knew exactly what it took to sell one: careful marketing, budgeting, and understanding that the market had to cooperate; otherwise, no amount of marketing can sell a home. I was an expert on the subject matter, and I wanted to build something of my own.
So when I left my employer, that event became the push that I needed. The learning curve wasn’t learning about the real estate industry; it was learning how to be an entrepreneur. The biggest challenge was transitioning from a structured corporate environment to running my own independent business. Even though I had already earned my broker’s license, I had never worked in a traditional real estate brokerage, so I had to figure out many aspects of the business on my own. Managing everything myself, operations, sales, and marketing was a major adjustment.
But that’s who I am: a problem solver. I figure things out. Transitioning into a full-time REALTOR® has been challenging, but it’s also what has made me grow as a person. To find balance and recharge outside of work, I turn to music. When I’m not working, I enjoy playing guitar, I play in two bands and in a worship band at church (I’m a backup singer as well). Michelle and I are still going strong after 33 years together. We have two children, Alex and Kaitlyn, who are in their 20s and in the medical profession.
Through every twist and turn, I’ve discovered that resilience and passion define my journey. Losing my job felt like the end, but it became the beginning of a life I’d always dreamed of, one where I could build something meaningful on my own terms. I’m grateful for the hardships, because they taught me to keep learning, and to never give up on what matters most.
What sets me apart as a real estate agent is the energy and expertise I bring to every client relationship. With decades of experience in the industry, I have a deep understanding of what it takes to sell homes. And my buyers benefit from my ability to spot potential problems in a property before we hire an inspector, which can save them time, money, and stress.
I’m fully focused on real estate and make myself available whenever my clients need me, so they always feel supported and informed. As a marketing expert, I know how to position and promote homes to get the best possible results. I’m committed to doing the absolute best for my clients, always looking out for their interests and guiding them through every step of the process. I also offer access to a trusted list of vendors and contractors, so if any issues arise, I can connect my clients with the right people to get things resolved quickly. My clients know I’m truly on their side.
Sincerely,
David Landry
